Fazıl AYSU

Fazıl Aysu was born in 1912. He graduated from Department of Architecture, Fine Arts Academy, and worked at architect offices starting from his university years. He worked with Mr. Ginter, then one of the important architects, in the restoration and interior design of Şale Mansion, with Seyfi Arkan in the construction of Florya Atatürk Mansion, and with Sedat Hakkı Eldem in the construction works of Yalova Thermal Otel. After graduation, he started to work as Prof. Bruno Taut’s assistant at the Academy. In the project of Ankara Language, History, and Geography Faculty, he worked as chief clerk to prepare the projects of various tobacco handling houses, administrative building, and Tekirdağ Wine Distillery. Furthermore, he worked with Italian Architect Vietti Violi in the projects of İnönü Stadium, Sport and Show Room (currently Lütfi Kırdar Congress Hall), and with Architect Şinasi Şahingiray in the projects of Galatasaray Ali Sami Yen Stadium, Fatih Karagümrük Stadium, Beykoz Sports Club, Taksim Tennis Club and courts, and Sümerbank Exhibition Premises. He founded Moderno along with Interior Architect Baki Aktar in 1953. They became a pioneer in terms of furniture design and production in that period when limited number of furniture production took place. Mr. Aysu, at that period, carried out various private and public building projects, including Istanbul Court House, Galata Passenger Lounge Building, Open Air Theatre, Harbiye Radio Building, Harbiye Başak Insurance and Ziraat Bank Branch. He passed away at the age of 102 on October 31, 2013.
