Deniz HASIRCI

Born in Reading, England, her research topics are about children’s environments, participatory design, and environment-behavior studies. She graduated from Bilkent University, Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design and worked at various design offices. As a Fulbright scholar, she attended at North Carolina State University and worked with Prof. Henry Sanoff on the topics of “school design, participatory design and creativity” between 2001 and 2002. Her articles have been published in academic journals such as The Journal of Creative Behavior, Creativity Research Journal, Journal of Academic Librarianship, METU Journal and Children, Youth, and Environments. Other articles were published in journals such as Popüler Bilim, Arkitekt, Geceyarısı Sineması, Düşe-Yazma, Varlık and Koridor, and her articles and illustrations have been published in Koridor, of which she was on the editorial board.

In 2005 she worked on “Child Attraction Center”, funded by the World Bank, with academicians from Bilkent University. In June 2006, she started to work as Assistant Professor at İzmir University of Economics. She has lectured courses such as Basic Design, Human Factors, Art and Design Studio, Model Making, Drawing and Representation, Applied Workshop, Design Semiotics, Graduation Thesis, Environmental Psychology at undergraduate level and Individual Study and Research Project at the postgraduate level. She conducted master’s thesis on Daylight in University Libraries, Children’s Hospital Schools, Alaçatı Design Language, Aerial Photography, and the Design on Birth Environments. She is still the coordinator of the second year Design Studio I and II and the Head of Department of the Interior Architecture and Environmental Design. She received Associate Professorship in 2013.

She is the representative of the İzmir Branch of Fulbright Alumni Society in Turkey. She is also the member of Chamber of Interior Architects in Turkey and Its İzmir Branch, Environmental Design Research Association (EDRA), and Bilkent University and TED Ankara College Alumi.

Since September 2014, she has been working as the project coordinator of the DATUMM Scientific Research Project.
