Önder KÜÇÜKERMAN

Önder Küçükerman was born in 1939. He graduated from İstanbul State Academy of Fine Arts and he started working for the same institution as an assistant. In 1971, he established the first Industrial Design Department in Turkey and he was the head of the department until 1980. He was the Deputy Dean of Industrial Arts Faculty which was recently established in Fine Arts Academy in 1980. He was the Dean of Faculty of Architecture in Mimar Sinan University between 1987 and 1993 for two periods, and from 1971 until his retirement in 2006 he was the head of the Industrial Design Department. When he established Industrial Design Department in 1971, Küçükerman who believes that design needs to be based on industrial grounds, was no longer involved in furniture designing. Between 1984 and 1992, as a consultant of Prime Ministry, Minister of State and Ministry of Tourism and Culture, he prepared projects in order to organize, develop and enhance traditional industrial resources in Turkey in terms of design and creativity, and during that period he was responsible for design management task and also a member of the executive board in Sümerbank/Sümerhalı. Prof. Küçükerman has several scientific and artistic research projects, publications, designs, TV programs, and more than 50 published books in the subjects of “Industrial Design”, “Creativity”, “Turkish Home”, “Traditional Design in Anatolia”, “Carpet”, “Glass Industry”, “Porcelain and Ceramic Industry”, “Clothing Industry”, “Automotive Industry”, “Heritage of Industry and Design History”, and “National Palaces”. After his retirement from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, Prof. Küçükerman was appointed as Vice Chancellor to T.C. Haliç University in September 2006. He is the Head of the Industrial Design Department, Faculty of Architecture since 2008. In addition, he is currently a faculty member in Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, Department of Industrial Design.
