Meltem Ö. GÜREL
Meltem Ö Gürel is the founding head of the Architecture Department at Bilkent University where she has lectured since 1994. She worked as a lecturer at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where she received her doctorate. She has worked in various architectural companies in the USA. She has received various design awards including the Edward L. Ryerson Traveling Award in Architecture, the Rexford Newcomb Award and ARRC and the King Student Medal received during her doctorate studies. Her written articles have been published in such magazines as the Journal of Architectural Education, the Journal of Architecture, the Journal of Design History, Gender, Place and Culture, the Journal of Architectural and Planning Research and the International Journal of Art and Design Education. Gürel’s studies are focused on architectural history and culture in the 20th century, culture-place relationships, design education, and gender and architecture.
